Three-star linebacker James Houston committed to Florida on Friday night, according to 247Sports.
The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Houston, a Fort Lauderdale, Florida native who plays at American Heritage School in nearby Plantation, made his commitment after attending the Gators’ annual “Friday Night Lights” camp. However, he did not participate after tearing his ACL nine days earlier while playing tight end at a 7-on-7 event.
Before deciding on Florida, Houston told 247Sports he also considered, in order, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Michigan and Miami among his other finalists.
“I feel like in my situation with my ACL injury I need to stay closer to home,” Houston told 247Sports, adding that he will undergo surgery soon.
