Florida Coaching Rumors: Gators "Vetting" Josh McDaniels As Potential Will Muschamp Replacement

The Florida Gators' search for Will Muschamp's replacement has now apparently turned to former Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels.

The Boston Herald reported on Monday that the Florida Gators are interested in potentially interviewing the now-New England Patriots offensive coordinator:

The University of Florida is vetting McDaniels and views him as a viable candidate for its vacant head coaching position, according to Footballscoop.com, which has a respected reputation when reporting news about college coaching searches.

Many prominent names have been linked to the Florida job since even before Muschamp was officially on his way out. However, McDaniels is a relatively new name in the mix whose NFL qualifications could make him a potential favorite in the eyes of athletic director Jeremy Foley.

McDaniels has worked on the Patriots staff under legendary head coach Bill Belichick since 2011. Along with his two years as Denver Broncos head coach, McDaniels also has NFL experience as the St. Louis Rams' offensive coordinator.
