Baseball: Offense key as FAU bounces back from Friday’s loss with back-to-back wins

Florida Atlantic baseball won two of its three games versus the University of Alabama-Birmingham this weekend in its first road trip of 2017.

The Owls (16-7-1, 5-1 Conference USA) scored 15 runs in the second and third game, both of which were victories, after scoring just twice in the loss.

Here’s a recap of each game:

Game one: FAU 2, UAB 6

UAB scored two runs in the third, then three more in the fifth inning pushed UAB ahead 5-0. FAU stranded nine runners and only pushed two across for the loss.

The Owls scored both of their runs in the sixth — on an RBI double by freshman Gary Mattis and redshirt junior Kevin Abraham’s sacrifice fly — to start the comeback, but were foiled by a double play in the seventh and a two-on, one-out situation in the eighth that saw no runs score.
