Fantasy Football 2014: QB Rankings

Fantasy season is upon us, which means it's time to start preparing for your draft. Al King and I have already detailed our Top 200 players, so now it's time to focus on quarterbacks.

It's a deep draft this year, so waiting to pick a QB and getting a few talented running backs and wide receivers is a good idea.

These rankings will be updated bi-weekly in July and weekly during August.

Player Notes
1. Peyton Manning, QB, DEN He won't have the season he had last year, but Manning is still the top fantasy QB in a deep class.
2. Drew Brees, QB, NO Brees is the only QB to rank in the top 10 in QB fantasy points in each of the past five years.
3. Aaron Rodgers, QB, GB Rodgers missed some time last year, but he'll be back to his usual fantasy production.
4. Andrew Luck, QB, IND No one does more for their team than Luck. He'll have a big season this year.
5. Matt Stafford, QB, DET The additions of Eric Ebron and Golden Tate to the Lions' pass-happy offense only helps Stafford's fantasy value.
6. Robert Griffin III, QB, WAS It seems like this year's edition of RGIII will resemble the 2012 version, not 2013 one. However, he does need to prove he can stay healthy.
7. Cam Newton, QB, CAR Newton has been a great fantasy QB so far, but his severe lack of weapons hurts his value.
8. Colin Kaepernick, QB, SF Kaepernick's running ability increases his fantasy value. Hopefully he shows improvement as a passer.
9. Matt Ryan, QB, ATL The return of a healthy Julio Jones and Roddy White will help Ryan.
10. Phillip Rivers, QB, SD Rivers is the surprise member of the group of six mentioned above. The others are Brady, Peyton, Rodgers and Brees.
11. Tony Romo, QB, Dallas Romo is one of just six QBs who have been a top 10 fantasy QB in four of the past five years. I am worried about his back though.
12. Nick Foles, QB, PHI Foles had a monster year once he became the starter, but I expect him to regress quite a bit this season.
13. Tom Brady, QB, NE Brady struggled last season, especially without Rob Gronkowski. With such a deep QB class, there is no need to rely on Brady as a starter.
14. Russell Wilson, QB, SEA Wilson will likely be drafted earlier than this becuse he's coming off a Super Bowl victory, but he's not a top 10 QB.
15. Ben Roethlisberger, QB, PIT Big Ben is a solid backup, but is not worth starting every week.
16. Jay Cutler, QB, CHI As far as bye week fill-ins go, you could do a lot worse than Cutler.
17. Andy Dalton, QB, CIN Dalton can't be trusted. One week he has a huge game, the next he throws four picks.
18. Josh McCown, QB, TB McCown was great at times last season, but I don't expect that to continue. However, there is potential here.
19. Carson Palmer, QB, ARI Palmer throws plenty of touchdowns, but he throws plenty of picks too.
20. Eli Manning, QB, NYG Manning throws way more interceptions than you can accept from your starter. He has also looked terrible this preseason. Avoid him if you can.
21. Joe Flacco, QB, BAL Flacco isn't elite in real life or in fantasy.
22. Ryan Tannehill, QB, MIA If Tannehill can get consistent pass protection, he might ascend into the top 15 fantasy QBs by the end of the year.
23. Alex Smith, QB, KC The Chiefs' offense runs through Jamaal Charles, not Smith.
24. Sam Bradford, QB, STL Bradford hasn't fulfilled expectations since being drafted No. 1 overall in 2010.
25. E.J. Manuel, QB, BUF Manuel is talented, but he's a few years away from being a reliable starter.
26. Jake Locker, QB, TEN Locker's ability to run helps his fantasy value, but his inability to stay healthy and his accuracy issues ruin it.
27. Brian Hoyer, QB, CLE I think Hoyer will be the starter for Week 1, but Johnny Manziel will get his chance at some point.
28. Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, HOU Fitzpatrick is a stop-gap starter for the Texans, so you shouldn't rely on him at all in fantasy.
29. Teddy Bridgewater, QB, MIN I think Bridgewater will be the Week 1 starter, but he's not ready to make your roster.
30. Matt Schaub, QB, OAK Schaub was terrible for the Texans last year, so there's no reason to add him to your fantasy team.
31. Chad Henne, QB, JAC It's best to avoid whoever the Jaguars start at QB this year.
32. Geno Smith, QB, NYJ Mike Vick might eventually become the starter, but for now it looks like it'll be Geno Smith. And you really don't want Geno Smith on your team.
