Kyle Freeland tosses a 1-hitter in win over White Sox

DENVER – It was a game for the ages on Sunday afternoon as former University of Evansville pitcher Kyle Freeland came within two outs of throwing a no-hitter in his rookie season with the Colorado Rockies.

Freeland, who was facing the Chicago White Sox on Sunday at Coors Field, got the first out in the ninth inning before Melky Cabrera singled to left field to break up the no-hit bid. Freeland exited the game to a thunderous applause from his home town. He went 8 1/3 innings on Sunday, allowing one hit on the way to his 9th win of the season.
