Edmonton Oilers: Small Coaching Changes Have Big Impact

Related Topics: Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers have made a couple of coaching changes this offseason. They added a new video coach in Jeremy Coupal (Nasvhille Predators), and on Thursday, they decided to part ways with Tyler Dellow, their long-time hockey analytics coach.

Though these seem like small changes, these tiny hirings and firings could go a long way for the Oilers, and represents a new change coming in the era of General Manager Peter Chiarelli.

First off, the video coach has a responsibility that is underrated, but is actually incredibly significant. He is the one who keeps track of everything that is happening, between his own team and the opposing team, and video is shown to players on flights, pre-game meetings and even after practice.
