When talking about the fourth-overall pick for the Edmonton Oilers, some believe they should trade the pick for an elite number-one NHL defenseman. My fellow staffers have already addressed this scenario, as the Oilers are in need of a right-handed puck moving defenseman.
This pick alone probably doesn’t bring an impact defenseman so Peter Chiarelli would likely package it along with a player or other picks.
This makes the most immediate impact to the roster and makes the team better for the start of the season. Another trade option could be to move down in the draft and get a good, NHL ready defenseman in a package for the fourth-overall pick, and I’m sure there are some teams in that 9-14 area that would like to move up.
