Oilers ready to make bold moves

EDMONTON - The Edmonton Oilers are cleaning house within the executive suite.

Ever since Bob Nicholson took over as the chief executive of the Oilers Entertainment Group earlier this week, there have been reports of changes coming within the organization.

Those wisps of smoke finally broke into a raging fire on Friday morning with reports that not only will president of hockey operations Kevin Lowe be replaced by former Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli, but Scott Smith, Hockey Canada’s chief operating officer, is also taking over from Oilers president and CEO Patrick LaForge.

An official announcement is expected from the Oilers during a noon-hour news conference in downtown Edmonton.
