The Pirates erupt for 14 runs to defeat No. 1 UCF

Although East Carolina trailed early in its first game of the American Athletic Conference Baseball Championships, the Pirates’ bats came alive, powering them to a 14-3 victory over No. 1 seed Central Florida, Tuesday night.

Having swept ECU (30-27, 8-17 AAC) earlier in the season, the Golden Knights (38-19, 15-10 AAC) came into the game as favorites and quickly took the lead in the first inning. UCF’s Luke Hamblin made the score 1-0 after he was driven home in by a double from his teammate Kyle Marsh. The Knights scored again in the second to take a 2-0 lead after an error in the field by the Pirates’ Dwanya Williams-Sutton.
