Pirates defeat UVA

ECU (6-5) was dominant from the very start of the game, as a five-run first inning propelled the Pirates to an early lead. Looking poised from the very beginning in its first matchup against UVA (6-7), Meredith Burroughs opened the five-run inning with a RBI single that brought in two runs, and a Tate McClellan RBI double that did the same.

Adding an error to the scoresheet in the midst of the inning lifted the Pirates to an early lead. They took advantage of three errors throughout the game, while giving up zero errors themselves on defense.

Leading the Pirates offensively were both redshirt freshman infielder Tate McClellan who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, and redshirt junior catcher Alex Mycek who went 3-for-3 and scored three runs.
