SARASOTA, Fla. -- Detroit Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez underwent an MRI on his sprained right foot on Sunday, but manager Brad Ausmus said the team is waiting for a review by a foot specialist.
Ausmus said after Sunday's spring training game that he didn't want to release misleading information by speculating about a timeline for Martinez's return before the specialist gives his opinion.
Martinez was injured in the first inning Saturday in Lakeland when he rolled his right foot while making a catch in the outfield.
X-rays were negative, indicating no broken bones, and the preliminary diagnosis was a sprained midfoot.
