Hands shaking in MLB debut, Spencer Turnbull converted nerves into velocity

CLEVELAND -- Coming out of the bullpen for the first time since he was a college freshman and pitching in the late innings of a tense game, Spencer Turnbull wasn't about to get fancy.

His 11-pitch Major League debut on Friday night included 10 fastballs, most sitting at 95 and 96 mph.

The 1-2-3 seventh inning was over in the blink of an eye. It included his first MLB strikeout (Yan Gomes) and a couple of routine grounders.

When Turnbull got back to the dugout, he realized his hands were shaking.

"I knew I was going to be nervous," Turnbull said afterwards.
