Detroit Tigers cut 9 from major league camp

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The first wave of cuts came from chilly Tiger Town this morning, and among them were infielder JaCoby Jones and right-handed reliever Jose Valdez.

In addition to Jones, seven other players were assigned to minor league camp: righty reliever Preston Guilmet, lefty reliever Drake Britton, catcher Miguel Gonzalez, first baseman Dominic Ficociello, infielder Tommy Field and outfielders Mike Gerber and Jason Krizan.

Valdez had a cup of coffee with the Tigers last season and will serve as relief depth this year. In 2015, he posted a 3.32 ERA with Triple-A Toledo. He was optioned to the Mud Hens today.
