Detroit 4, Minnesota 1: Justin Upton, Jordan Zimmermann lift Tigers

MINNEAPOLIS – Today’s game began as yesterday’s ended: With hard hits.

And none on this windy and overcast and cool day at Target Field were hit harder than Justin Upton’s laser to leftfield in the first inning.

Upton’s three-run shot, his second of the season, gave Detroit Tigers right-hander Jordan Zimmermann all the run support he needed in a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Twins.

The Tigers struck early, when Upton struck a Tyler Duffey fastball into the gusting wind and off the facing of the second deck. It was the latest sign Upton has shaken off his early season slump: He had three hits on Friday night.
