Red Wings struggle in their own zone and take a step back

WASHINGTON - On a night when the great Alex Ovechkin was held without a shot on goal, the league-leading Washington Capitals continued to display their offensive might in a 6-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Verizon Center.

Washington is deep and skilled, with plenty of goal-scoring options, but the Red Wings felt their poor defensive play contributed to the Capitals' success.

Washington has won 11 consecutive home games and has scored five or more goals in its past 10 at home, one short of the longest such streak in NHL history, compiled by the 1970-71 Boston Bruins.
