Cleary refuses to report to Wings farm team

Daniel Cleary is refusing to report to the minors.

The Detroit Red Wings had assigned Cleary to their farm club in Grand Rapids after he cleared waivers. Today, general manager Ken Holland said Cleary "is not reporting to Grand Rapids."

Asked what happens to Cleary's $950,000 salary, Holland replied, "That is between the club and Dan Cleary."

There are no salary cap ramifications for the Red Wings, because a player assigned to the minors making $950,000 or less does not count against the cap.

This is the tail end of a debacle that began in the fall of 2013, when former Wings coach Mike Babcock pushed for Cleary to return to the team just as training camp began.
