After playing Team USA tight in a 98-88 loss on August 10th in the Rio Olympic games, most fans expected Aron Baynes of the Detroit Pistons and the Australian men’s basketball team to find themselves in a rematch against the tournament favorites in the gold medal game.
Thanks to a disappointing 87-61 rout at the hands of Serbia in the semifinal, however, they found themselves relegated to the bronze medal game against Spain on Sunday. The Australians came out flat falling behind by as much as 40-28 halfway through the second quarter, and they weren’t helped by early foul trouble that led to starting center Andrew Bogut fouling out just two minutes into the third quarter.
