There are 450 jobs in the NBA and latching on to one of them in a world where basketball is now played in every corner comes against astronomical odds. There are 150 starting jobs and the chances at getting one of them becomes incrementally longer.
Now flip the perspective. It can seem just as daunting if you're an NBA general manager to try to upgrade any one of those starting positions year over year.
