Report: Lions’ Quandre Diggs out for season

The Detroit Lions have lost cornerback Quandre Diggs for the season, according to former NFL Network reporter Rand Getlin.

Diggs, Detroit’s primary nickel corner, appeared in all 12 games this season, averaging 35 snaps. He recorded 44 tackles, including two for a loss, and one pass breakup. He left Sunday’s game early in the third quarter with a shoulder injury.

After waiving Johnthan Banks over the weekend, the Lions currently have four cornerbacks on the roster, but none with extensive nickel experience.

The team intended to utilize Nevin Lawson in that role as a rookie in 2014, but he’s since found a home on the outside.
