Stefan Charles has worked to overcome a cultural bias of being a Canadian trying to make a career playing defensive tackle in the National Football League.
Call it a geographic twist of fate, but Charles is looking to upgrade his career with the Detroit Lions – in the only major city in the United States that is north of its border with Canada.
Charles grew up in suburban Toronto where he played high school ball, and he played college football at the University of Regina in the province of Saskatchewan.
