NOTEBOOK: Mathis speaks about concussion, future

Rashean Mathis has a wealth of experience and knowledge, and still feels a responsibility to help Detroit’s young cornerbacks get better, despite his season being over due to a concussion.

Mathis spoke to reporters in the locker room Wednesday for the first time since being diagnosed with a concussion after sitting out Detroit’s game in London, and then eventually going on injured reserve this past Saturday.

Mathis suffered the injury Week 7 vs. Minnesota, but had delayed symptoms (minor headaches) and wasn’t diagnosed with a concussion until after the team got back from London.

He said he’s currently feeling good and is symptom-free, but thought it necessary to go on injured reserve despite there being half the season left.
