Lions bring back Bentley to shore up CB position

The Lions officially re-signed Bill Bentley, and the cornerback will join the team for practice Wednesday.

Bentley, 26, was a third-round pick by the Lions in 2012, but the team cut him in June after drafting two cornerbacks in May. He worked out for the team Tuesday before signing his deal Wednesday.

Bentley likely will be the immediate backup option in the slot behind rookie Quandre Diggs. Josh Wilson (knee) officially went on injured reserve Wednesday, and with Nevin Lawson’s status unclear due to a concussion suffered Sunday, the Lions had just three healthy cornerbacks — Diggs, Darius Slay and Crezdon Butler — before signing Bentley.
