Former Denver Broncos running back Clinton Portis in 2013 contemplated murdering the people he felt were responsible for mismanaging a large portion of his $43.1 million career earnings, according to a report in Sports Illustrated.

“It wasn’t no beat up. It was kill,” Portis told Sports Illustrated.

According to the report, Portis spend several late nights and early mornings camped out in his car with a gun, waiting for the men he felt cost him his fortune and were ignoring his calls.

A television producer friend with training as a family therapist helped talk Portis out of violence by urging him to see the people who loved him, and reminding him of his four sons.
