After a disappointing 3-2 loss at the Houston Dash, the Washington Spirit return home to the Maryland SoccerPlex this afternoon to host the Chicago Red Stars. When the two teams met earlier this year they played to a 1-1 tie that could have gone either way, and the Red Stars have managed to go seven straight without a win.
Francisca Ordega scored the opening goal the last time Chicago came to town, but she won’t be around this afternoon for the Spirit due to national team duty with Nigeria. The Spirit are also missing USWNT star Mallory Pugh due to a knee injury sustained in Houston, making the next few games a big challenge.
