Enjoy Lionel Messi vs. Cristiano Ronaldo in El Clasico while you still can

We should probably enjoy it while we can.

While Spain’s El Clasico, Barcelona vs. Real Madrid, isn’t in any danger of losing its status as the biggest domestic league game in the world, the particular frisson it has generated in the era of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has only a few years left to run.

While he may forever preen like a teenager, Ronaldo will turn 32 in February. Despite still looking like the little kid in the park with his oversize jersey and shorts, Messi will reach 30 next year.

Both, of course, are still very capable of producing breathtaking moments of skill and flair to win any game, against any opposition, and they are now so closely identified with their respective clubs that any departure will surely be delayed as long as possible.
