Dallas Mavericks: Shawn Marion will continue playing, but not until 40-years-old

When talking about former Dallas Mavericks legend Jason Kidd, one can't help but respect him for consistently producing all the way to the age of 40 as a player.

One of Kidd's former Dallas Mavericks teammates and current Mav Shawn Marion respects what Kidd did, but by no means does he want to follow in Kidd's footsteps.

“No way, no, no way,” Marion stated with a violent shake of his head when asked if he would also try to play until he was 40-years-old.

“When the season is over with I’m going to evaluate everything I’ve got going on and see what’s what...At the same time I would love to have another championship.”

Marion turns 36-years-old on May 6th, and faces the possibility of becoming a free agent on July 1st. He has expressed major interest in returning to the Dallas Mavericks for a fifth season, but the 16-year veteran wants to make sure the financial considerations are fair on both sides.

All things being considered, count Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle in the camp of those who would love to have Marion back in a Mavericks uniform -- “He’s made a lot of sacrifices, so my level of respect for him is extremely high, which is no secret. He’s got more good years left in him if he decides to keep playing, but that’ll be his decision and we’ll see what happens with that.”

If Marion can keep his scoring average (10.5 ppg) above ten points per game during the final stretch of this season, he will continue a career-long 16-year streak of averaging double-digit points per game. He is also shooting a solid 48% from the field -- almost in line with his career 48.5% shooting percentage.
