The history of the Dallas Cowboys - Washington Redskins rivalry, and predictions for Sunday's game

The rivalry between the Cowboys and the Redskins has become one of the most notorious in the NFL.

The History of the Rivalry

As of today, the Cowboys are 58-37 against the Redskins, but Dallas has never won a playoff game against Washington. The Redskins have never had longer than a four-game winning streak against the Cowboys, but Dallas had a 10-game winning streak starting in 1997 and ending in 2002. The Cowboys have won almost double the number of games that the Redskins have inside the Dallas Cowboys' stadium, and last season the Redskins beat the Cowboys in both games between the two teams.

The Current Situation

Cowboys: Dallas stands at 2-3 coming into Sunday's rivalry game. Their season so far has been good, but not great. Their last game against the Broncos was THE game of the week - Dallas lost to Peyton Manning by a touchdown, but Tony Romo played his best game in ages. If Romo continues to play like he did against Denver, he could slowly regain the title of one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. If Romo can avoid making the 4th-quarter mistakes that could soon be named after him, even better. The recent spotlight has been on Dez Bryant, who has six touchdowns on the season, and DeMarco Murray who has rushed for 399 yards so far this year.

Redskins: RGIII returned to play this season after a lengthy injury, and has struggled to win games. The team is 1-3 and 3rd in the NFC conference, right behind the Cowboys. RGIII has less than half the number of touchdowns as Romo, and

twice as many interceptions. The stars on this Redskins team have been Alfred Morris and Pierre Garcon, who both have two touchdowns so far. Washington hasn't looked as dangerous offensively as they did last year, and a blowout 38-20 loss in Green Bay earlier this year showed how far they have to come to be one of the NFL's elite teams. The Redskins have the potential to be a great team, but have not stepped up to the occasion.

Predictions for this Sunday's rivalry game:

- The Redskins come out strong and well-rested from their bye week, and score the first touchdown of the game

- Both quarterbacks throw at least one touchdown

- Tony Romo connects with Dez Bryant for 2+ touchdowns

- Ultimately, the Redskins feel the pressure and the Cowboys continue to play like winners

- Cowboys win, 27-21
