The 5 Best Draft Picks In Dallas Cowboys History

The 2015 NFL Draft is mere days away, which means it’s time to turn back the clock and take a look at the selections which helped make the Dallas Cowboys the historically relevant franchise they are today. Here’s our list of The 5 Best Draft Picks In Dallas Cowboys History:

5) DL Bob Lilly (Pick #13 in 1961)

Lilly earned the nickname "Mr. Cowboy" because of his remarkable accomplishments, including making 11 Pro Bowls and made the NFL's 1960s and 1970s all-decade teams.

4) QB Troy Aikman (Pick #1 in 1989)

The Hall of Famer was the ringleader of Dallas' three Super Bowl titles in the 1990's. Aikman made six Pro Bowls and was named to the All-Pro team three times.

3) S Darren Woodson (Pick #37 in 1992)

Woodson is the franchise leader in tackles, and also posted 23 career interceptions. He anchored the Cowboys' Super Bowl defenses in the 1990's, and should make the Hall of Fame soon.

2) RB Emmitt Smith (Pick #17 in 1990)

Smith's accomplishments speak for themselves: three-time Super Bowl champion, eight-time Pro Bowler, Hall of Famer, and is the NFL's all-time leading rusher. He's one of the best running backs in league history and owned every major Cowboys rushing record until DeMarco Murray broke them in 2014.

1) QB Roger Staubach (Pick #129 in 1964)

Staubach wasn't taken until the 10th round because of his military responsibilities coming out of Navy, and didn't play in the NFL until 1969 as a result. However, he took the league by storm once he took over in Dallas, leading the Cowboys to five Super Bowls, winning two of them.
