Tommy Kahnle traded by Rockies for White Sox's Yency Almonte

The Rockies continued their movement toward youth Tuesday by trading inconsistent right-handed relief pitcher Tommy Kahnle to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for right-handed pitching prospect Yency Almonte.

Almonte, 21, is 16-16 with a 4.70 ERA in 51 appearances, including 44 starts, over four minor-league seasons. He split time between Single-A Kannapolis and High-A Winston-Salem in 2015. He finished with a combined 11-7 record with 110 strikeouts and 38 walks and a 3.41 ERA over 24 games, all but two starts.

Almonte will be assigned to the Rockies' High-A Modesto team and likely will begin the 2016 season there.
