Rockies will be patient with pitching prospects

Nick Groke spoke with Rockies' farm director Zach Wilson about the organization's group of young pitchers. With regard to how soon prospects like Jeff Hoffman and Kyle Freeland (who are dominating at Triple- and Double-A, respectively) will advance, Wilson relied on a "they'll be ready when they're ready" type of response.

Eddie Butler's rushed promotion to the majors in 2014 is the touchstone. The reassuring lesson from Butler is not "we have to wait until August or so;" rather, it appears to be "we have to more critically assess each player as an individual." And the focus might not always be on pure performance.
