Rockies turning catcher into a long-term position of strength

Like we've mentioned before, the Rockies scouting staff deserves a lot of praise for identifying and grabbing Tony Wolters after Cleveland put him on waivers. As a game and pitching staff manager, as well as a defender, Wolters has demonstrated that he's more than capable of handling catcher duties in the majors. Cleveland manager Terry Francona deserves some credit as well. During spring training in 2013, Wolters told the Denver Post's Patrick Saunders, Francona simply said: "I see a catcher in you." Wolters agreed to leave the middle infield behind, and the 2016 Rockies have a diamond in the rough catcher.
