Rockies lose 8-5 to Nationals, continue to fall out of Wild Card race

It was another rough night at the office for the Colorado Rockies who continue to plummet out of Wild Card contention, dropping the series opener to the Washington Nationals 8-5.

In Jeff Hoffman’s second MLB start he achieved his first quality start, lasting six innings (two more than his first outing) and giving up just three earned runs.

In the top of the first, noted Rockie-killer Jayson Werth took Hoffman deep on a hanging 0-2 curveball. The Nationals got an unearned run in the third when the speedy Trea Turner forced a throwing error from shortstop Cristhian Adames and moved to second before advancing to third on a botched pickoff attempt from Hoffman himself.
