Kosmider: Rockies could have dominant 1-2 punch at top of rotation

There will be no Rocktober in 2016.

Give the Rockies credit for turning a stated goal of reaching the postseason into more than just lip service by storming out of the all-star break and shooting up the National League standings. But last week’s dismal trip through the land of beer and cheese, a three-game sweep at the hands of the woebegone Milwaukee Brewers, turned the playoffs once again into a wait-until-next-year proposition for Colorado, albeit deeper into the calendar than usual.

Still, what was perhaps the Rockies’ worst series of the year — in part because it came after back back-to-back series wins over first-place teams — provided more evidence the 23-year-old franchise could soon have what it never really has: a dominant 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation.
