The Colorado Rapids' USL affiliate Charlotte Independence drew with Louisville City FC on Saturday in their final regular season match of 2016.
Rapids' loanee John Berner played the full match in goal, recording four saves, and defender Joe Greenspan entered the game in the 86th minute as a substitute.
A win would have secured fourth place and a home playoff match, but the draw - coupled with a Rochester Rhinos win - saw the Independence drop to fifth in the final standings.
Next up for Charlotte is an Eastern Conference quarterfinal matchup with the Rhinos - the defending USL champions - on Saturday, October 1 in Rochester, NY.
