The Colorado Avalanche had a historically bad 2016-2017 season with a 22-56-4 record and 48 points. That was the worst record in the NHL by 21 points. It was their worst record since their move to Denver in 1995.
To add insult to injury, they then lost the Draft Lottery and dropped all the way to the #4 spot.
However, another NHL season is approaching just around the corner.
Entering the new season, Colorado hopes to at least be competitive and stay out of the basement of the Central Division. But until younger players develop the expectations will be low.
