Twenty years ago Monday, COMSAT Video Enterprises — based in Bethesda, Md. — confirmed it had purchased the Quebec Nordiques, and that the franchise was moving to Denver. The NHL approved the sale and move four weeks later.

Yes ... it has been 20 years.

I was living in Denver at the time but working for The Sporting News, mostly covering football. The next month, I sat in the stands for the "Break the Ice" rally, attended by 18 players, at McNichols Sports Arena and began to be converted to the idea that the NHL was going to work this time in Denver.
