CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Ryan Merritt waited one week before he finally made his major-league debut.
After Merritt tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, the Indians didn't wait long to option him to Triple-A Columbus to add a fresh arm to the bullpen. Less than 24 hours after Merritt's debut, the club returned the southpaw to the Triple-A rotation and recalled right-hander Shawn Armstrong.
Merritt joined the Tribe in time for a double header in Chicago on May 23. He didn't pitch until he spared the Indians' bullpen with his lengthy outing in Monday's series opener against Texas.
