Cleveland Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis in a much better place than a year ago

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Jason Kipnis no longer sees a wildfire when he peeks at his rear-view mirror.

The Indians' second baseman suffered through a miserable 2014 campaign. Then, when the off-season arrived, Kipnis couldn't catch a break.

First, he dropped a 45-pound weight on his left ring finger, a mishap that required surgery. Later, he ate some bad sushi and was stricken with food poisoning at the end of a vacation to Punta Cana and on his flight back to the U.S. Then, he was summoned for jury duty.
