CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Chris Berman is out, Sam Ponder is in as the host of ESPN's "NFL's Sunday Countdown."
The 31-year-old reporter had been working for the network's "College GameDay" and "Saturday Night Football" on ABC since 2012, when she took over for Erin Andrews, who left for Fox.
"My first reaction in all honesty was 'WHAT?' Chris Berman is synonymous with NFL coverage," Ponder said in a release. "To me, that's why it's so important to not look at this as replacing Chris Berman, because that is an absolutely impossible task."
Ponder is the just third person and the first woman to host the program in its 32-year history, following Berman and Bob Ley.
