BEREA: No one outside Browns headquarters thinks Southern California quarterback Cody Kessler has a chance to beat out Robert Griffin III as the starter in September.
Kessler, selected in the third round Friday night, 93rd overall, said he’s always been an underdog and is going after the job. After the draft concluded Saturday, executive vice president Sashi Brown said, “This is going to be a competition.”
“We would not have made the investment we made in (Griffin) if we didn’t feel like he was capable of being our starter,” Brown said of the ex-Redskin, who signed a two-year, $15 million contract in March.
