Clemson Football: Van Smith the Tigers’ most underrated defender?

During Clemson’s 2015 National Championship run, Smith barely logged any meaningful playing time, recording just 19 total tackles, one tackle for loss and one interception. This lack of playing time was due to the experienced talent that was ahead of him on the depth chart.

This past season, Smith burst onto the scene as a first time starter. Though he stands just, 5-foot-10, 190 pounds Smith is very active at the line of scrimmage, finishing third on the team in tackles with 95 on the year.

Coming into the 2016 season, Clemson’s secondary was arguably the teams biggest concern.
