Prior to Seth Beer’s game-winning hit in Clemson’s 7-6 victory over Furman in 11 innings on Wednesday, head coach Monte Lee took the freshman to the side and began to talk to him about baseball. It wasn’t really anything special, or so Beer thought.
Halfway through the conversation Lee stuck his handout for a handshake and told his star player he wanted to congratulate him. Of course puzzled by the gesture, Beer politely asked, “For what?”
That’s when Lee told him he had been selected by USA Baseball as a member of the Collegiate National Team.
“It was very emotional for me.
