Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney has canceled an appearance to accept an award from an anti-LGBT group. When it first came to light that Swinney was set to appear at the event, there was plenty of negative backlash from politicians, LGBT organizations and students.
After receiving that negative press and thinking over everything, Swinney decided it would be best to avoid the event altogether.
“I was recently selected by the Palmetto Family Council, an organization with which I have no association, as their “South Carolina Family Champion of 2015” and was invited to receive this recognition at an event sponsored by the group on June 2,” he said in a statement.
