Reds activate Simon, option Smith to Louisville

Simon last pitched for Cincinnati on June 15 vs. the Braves, and he was placed on the DL with a strained right trapezius. During his rehab assignment with Louisville, Simon had a 4.80 ERA in five games and last pitched on Wednesday, going five innings with one run allowed.

Before the injury, Simon was demoted from the rotation to the bullpen amid deep struggles. He's 2-7 with a 9.45 ERA in 13 games, including 11 starts. The Reds brought him back to the club during Spring Training on a one-year, $2 million contract.
