Drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 2013 and traded six months later for Marlon Byrd, right-handed pitcher Ben Lively is returning to his former organization.
The Reds signed the 29-year-old Lively to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training. Lively hasn’t pitched in the Majors since 2019, spending the last three years as a starting pitcher in Korea.
Lively was one of two non-roster additions to camp Thursday, along with minor league center fielder Lorenzo Cedrola.
Lively made 26 appearances (20 starts) in the Majors from 2017-19, mostly with the Philadelphia Phillies. He had a 4-7 record and a 4.
