Cincinnati Reds receive second straight off day after Phillies home opener postponed

PHILADELPHIA – The Cincinnati Reds had two rainouts within four hours Wednesday afternoon.

Their series finale against the Chicago Cubs was postponed to Sept. 1 as a split doubleheader, and Thursday's game in Philadelphia was preemptively postponed because of rain in the forecast for the Phillies' home opener.

“After consultation with Major League Baseball and the uncertain forecast (Thursday) between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m., we have elected to move our home opener with the Reds to Friday," David Buck, the Phillies executive vice president, said in a statement Wednesday. "With the open date, we have the ability to reschedule the game for our fans.
