Al Michaels: Sparky Anderson gave me my PhD in baseball during time with Reds in 1970s

Former Reds play-by-play broadcaster Al Michaels talked about his time in Cincinnati in the early 1970s - and how much he was influenced by National Baseball Hall of Fame manager Sparky Anderson, among others - during an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show.

Michaels, who came to Cincinnati in 1971 and was replaced by Marty Brennaman in the Reds' broadcast booth in 1974, was named Wednesday as the winner of 2021 Ford C. Frick Award, presented annually by the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown to a broadcaster for "major contributions to baseball.
