Reds at wrong side of Leake-Wainwright pitching duel

Although the outcome was pretty much what I expected – the Reds losing yet another nationally-televised game – the way it played out was a much more intriguing than the pitching matchup would have suggested.

Namely, that Mike Leake and Adam Wainwright would face little to no competition from batters through the first seven innings.

It didn’t start out feeling that way, as Leake was greeted by Matt Carpenter with a lead-off home run (which also kicked off the ESPN announcers love-fest with the Cardinals that lasted the whole game and felt like a knife being twisted in a wound – yes, I the Cardinals are a ridiculously good team and have owned the Reds in recent history, but is it necessary to mention that all.
