Even as Cincinnati basked in the glow of a goose bump-raising All-Star Game played at its shining new jewel of a stadium – “The Crown on the Queen City” – shadows were forming that would cast a pall for years to come on both of the franchises that called Riverfront Stadium home.
No matter how much success came each team’s way – and there were glorious seasons to be enjoyed by both the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals that year and over the next few – there always would be those nagging “What ifs.
