Bruce Bochy “retired” after 13 seasons with the Giants that included 3 World Series titles. But is Bochy really done? The Cubs would be foolish to not at least touch base with Bochy. Fellow veteran manager Joe Girardi’s name comes up for manager openings, and the Cubs job is no different. Is he a good fit for Chicago? What about reuniting the Red Sox band of Theo Epstein and Terry Francona? Francona won two World Series in Boston under Epstein and would have the talent to do it with the Cubs.

Carlos Beltran is considered a future manager in MLB circles. While he lacks managerial experience, his connection with players is well-documented and would be an excellent leader of the Cubs clubhouse. Astros bench coach Joe Espada as a rising candidate as he’s been a key part of Houston’s success. If the Cubs don’t pounce, another MLB team will in the near future.
The Cubs top two candidates might be within house with bench coach Mark Loretta & special advisor David Ross. Loretta has fans within the front office and is considered a hot commodity. Ross played with most of the current core on the 2016 World Series team and is a favorite of Epstein’s.
